2000 PAIRS OF SHOES DONATION !
Through one of its member, SCAA received a donation of 2000 pairs of shoes from ORVA
SCAA sent the shoes to Senegal rural Parish of Mbacke, a district of Diourbel region in Central Senegal. The shoes were distributed to the local population of children, women and men of the village of NGOHE. This is one of the poorest area of Senegal, where the drought resulted in a famine throughout the region. The majority of the population is Muslim however the Catholic Church maintains a strong presence and support to the population. Children education, Health and livelihoods of the region are largely supported by the Catholic Parish.
The fertility rate is 5.3 children per women, maternal mortality is very high, and 81.7% of women are illiterate. 55.7% of the population has less than 20 years old.
Other Shoes were donated to CARITAS SENEGAL who shares the mission of the Catholic Church to serve the poor and to promote charity and justice throughout the world. Caritas distributed it in several parish of Senegal.
Beginning as a hosiery chain in 1948, ORVA expanded with stores that spread from the New York metro area; Syracuse to Detroit, Columbus, Dayton and grew to as many as 19 stores, specializing in a niche market of hosiery and dance-wear. The groundwork for their concept of a small department store in the heart of a residential neighborhood, was established. The merchandising cornered the market on active wear and athletic gear for exercise crazed women of all ages.
